Free Midwifery Care for the Forks Community

Forks, Washington may be known for the Twilight movies, but what is often overlooked is the lack of accessible maternity care for the families who live here.

Surrounded by the beauty of the Olympic rainforest and home to the Quileute, Hoh, and Makah communities, many pregnant families must travel over 44 miles for basic maternity services—often through difficult weather and road conditions.

Midwives are working to change that.

Cottage Community Birth Services is proud to offer free midwifery clinic services in Forks, bringing compassionate, community-based care closer to home.

Rural Needs

One of the greatest needs in rural communities is postpartum care. Many families receive little to no support after their baby is born. With Washington State now recognizing the importance of care for up to 12 months after birth, our clinic is committed to helping mothers receive the support they deserve throughout the entire postpartum year.

We are here for you.

You are not meant to navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum alone.

Women’s Health Advocate & Student Midwife

Lauren Suggs is a local advocate for women’s health and a student midwife currently attending the Mercy In Action College of Midwifery. Raised in a small-town community, Lauren understands the unique challenges families face when access to maternity care is limited.

Her passion for midwifery began during her own pregnancies. At the time, midwifery care was not available in her area, and the experience inspired her to pursue a path where she could help ensure other women have access to the compassionate, personalized care she wished had been available to her.

Lauren believes that motherhood is one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences in life, and that women deserve supportive, respectful care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

As a homeschooling mother living in what she believes may be one of the most beautiful places on earth, Lauren feels deeply connected to the Forks community and the surrounding wilderness. Her goal is to help plant and grow a strong midwifery presence in the region—one that offers families a more personal, relationship-centered alternative to traditional hospital-based maternity care.

After completing her training, Lauren plans to continue serving as a community midwife in Forks and the surrounding rural areas, helping bring accessible, holistic maternity care to families living in some of Washington’s most remote and untouched communities.
